Man, this one took a while to figure out. I was trying to balance something that looked gestural while retaining its form and structure.
But working through it really helped, and I ended up working through emotional ruts as well.
I’m going to try to upload more, or at least as much as I can. Thank you for hanging around, guys! Glad you like the art!
Color study for “My Seven Star Brothers”
Quite messy but I’m trying to revisit this sort of coloring.
I’m thinking this is where Quillwork girl has to get the brothers to take her seriously, , though a couple are curious, some are just laughing at her, or giving her the stink eye.
Which gets me to thinking about the whole when-a- female enters a ‘boy’s club’ scenario.
Does she necessarily have to forego being a girl? Does she have to act like “one of the guys”, and go through the whole “I’m not like other girls” thing? Does she have to resort to being pushed aside or picking up after them like a mom?
Not necessarily.
I’d like to think she can take charge, still be a good sister and just be herself.

so I tried to stop being a baby and push composition and colors more without crying over everything and giving up. I’m happy with it AHHH must practice more. :UUUU
and to those who asked here’s the rest:
Sketch collection of the Native American (Cheyenne Legend) Quillwork Girl and Her Seven Star Brothers. Still kind of messy and practicing with shapes etc. 
Focused so much on character shapes, that there are still some inaccuracies,
Cheyenne men (I think) tend to wear their hair more in ‘clustered’ braids, while the women’s braids are tighter and neater. Correct me if I’m wrong.
But these were greatly fun to make, and listening to the right music makes all the difference.
Playing with designs and color for Quillwork Girl from a previous idea about “My Seven Star Brothers” from the legend.
Genuine Native American Cheyenne dresses for women are beautiful and decorative, and I’m figuring out ways to simplify them without over doing it.
Also, if I were to develop her personality as a character, I’d like to keep her as the kind, generous and spiritually-sensitive person as she is in the actual folklore, while giving her some quirks and a commanding presence (because if you have seven brothers, I would think you’d need a lot of that).

I’m playing around with some story and character ideas about Native American Legends, folklore, like the ones shown on that old ABC tv special called “Dreamkeeper”, and the ones passed down from generations during gatherings and/or powwows
This one is from the Cheyenne legend “Quillwork Girl and her Seven Star Brothers”
A story about a clever girl who searched for her seven brothers, and them accepting her as their sister.
